Assuming that an interested lay person wanted to approach the record player as an instrument, what questions would have to be posed?
What makes the record player into an instrument?
How can a record player be distinguished from other instruments?
What historical developments have introduced the record player into music?
What role does the record player play in present-day electronic music?
What abilities does an artist have to have to play the record player?
Are particular records required to play record player music?
Are all record players suitable for use in art?

Stefan Beck, media artist from Frankfurt and obsessed with the record player from a young age, will deal with these and other questions in detail. His own work as a record player artist is documented at www.scratchbeck.net
